Learn about the Moving Merritt project below.

The City of Sachse is proposing improvements to Merritt Road from Pleasant Valley Road to north of Sachse Road for a total project length of approximately 1.6 miles. Proposed improvements include the following:

  • Widening Merritt Road to a four-lane divided roadway (two lanes in each direction) consisting of a 12-foot-wide inside travel lane and a 14-foot-wide outside shared-use lane for bicycles and vehicles

  • Constructing a hike/bike trail on the west side of the roadway

  • Realigning approximately 0.2 miles of Merritt Road to connect directly with Woodbridge Parkway and improving safety with a traffic signal at the intersection with Sachse Road

  • Raising the elevation of Merritt Road at low points to eliminate temporary closures due to roadway flooding

The total estimated cost for the project is approximately $29 million (right of way and construction). The project is funded for construction with two-thirds of the cost funded with federal dollars and county dollars.

Construction is estimated to begin January 2025. Construction of the proposed project is expected to take approximately two years.

Traffic noise analysis of the proposed improvements, in accordance with federal regulations and TxDOT’s Guidelines for Analysis and Abatement of Roadway Traffic Noise, does not demonstrate that noise abatement barriers are feasible and/or reasonable. Based on the findings, noise abatement barriers will not be constructed. Detailed results of the traffic noise study will be included in the project environmental documents.
